Michael Gonzales brings over 25 years of leadership and financial expertise to FIG, where he serves as Chief Operating Officer, Chief Compliance Officer, and a member of the firm’s Investment Committee. Michael’s extensive expertise in trading, structuring, and risk management strengthens FIG's operational efficiency and informs the firm’s Investment Committee with strategic, data-driven insights, supporting sound decision-making and delivering value to clients. Michael is instrumental in fostering a culture of innovation. His focus on leveraging technology, optimizing operational processes, and ensuring compliance excellence has transformed the firm’s infrastructure.
Prior to joining FIG, Michael spent 17 years at J.P. Morgan, where he held key roles in both New York and San Francisco. His leadership as a trader and lead structurer for the Municipal Derivatives Business helped drive substantial growth for the business. Additionally, he served as CFO/Controller for the America Rates Derivatives business and was a pivotal member of J.P. Morgan’s Macro Trading Capital & Funding Committee. Michael also played a key role in talent development, serving as Co-Chair of the Sales & Trading Summer Analysts program, where he mentored and guided the next generation of financial professionals. Michael began his career at KPMG LLP, and was both a senior accountant in audit, and a manager in Transaction Structuring Services.
Michael earned his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Southern California and is a Certified Public Accountant (inactive). He was previously registered with FINRA Series 7, 63, and 65. Outside of work, Michael enjoys golfing, coaching baseball, traveling, hiking with his family, and supporting USC football.
